Toy Trains, Cable Dreams & The Silence of Lauterbrunnen & Mürren

Some places don’t just mesmerise you – they open your eyes and the opinion to look around. That was Lauterbrunnen and Mürren for us. After a dreamy day in Interlaken, Day 5 brought a new kind of magic — high-altitude silence, unfiltered air, and landscapes that feel unreal even when you're standing inside them.

From Valleys to Peaks: The Journey Begins

We began early from Interlaken, heading toward the storybook valley of Lauterbrunnen. The train slowly chugged through tunnels and across open pastures, and soon the views transformed — sheer cliffs, wild waterfalls, and quiet Swiss homes straight out of a fairy tale.

Lauterbrunnen welcomed us like a scene frozen in time. A tiny town, but with a heart that echoes through mountains. Towering cliffs on both sides, cows grazing lazily, and the mighty Staubbach Falls cascading right into the village — nature seemed to perform effortlessly here.

First Gondola Ride: To Mürren, the Car-Free Village

Then came a first — our very first gondola ride! As we stepped into the cable car that would take us to Mürren, there was a childlike excitement in the air. The gondola rose gently, and with it, our sense of wonder. The cliffs dropped below, the mountains drew closer, and the world became impossibly beautiful.

At the top, we entered Mürren — a peaceful alpine village where no cars are allowed, and time seems to move on foot. Only small delivery carts or tiny electric vehicles roll by like toy cars in a film set. There’s no noise, no rush — just wind, cowbells, and the occasional whisper of your own amazement.

Walking Through a Dream

We explored Mürren on foot, wandering past wooden chalets adorned with bright flowers, open meadows, and trails that seemed to disappear into the clouds. It felt like we were inside a painting — or more honestly, outside the world we knew. No maps. No hurry. Just footsteps, photographs, and frequent moments of stunned silence. Every viewpoint opened up a new gasp. The mighty Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau stood like silent guardians of the Alps, snow-tipped and majestic. We found a quiet bench, sat for a long time, and just watched the world move slowly. No conversations, just deep breaths.

A Taste of the Mountains

We stopped at a local café for a warm lunch — mountain cheese toast, soup, and rich hot chocolate. All locally sourced, and all enjoyed with panoramic views. In a village like Mürren, even the food feels like a gentle celebration.

A Place That Lingers

Mürren doesn’t ask for attention — it commands stillness. You don’t visit it for excitement; you come here to remember how it feels to be truly present. No WiFi needed. No list to tick off. Just you, the mountains, and a memory being written in real time.

Final Thought:

Kahani 5 wasn’t about doing. It was about being - being in the silence, the calm mountains. It was a whisper from the Swiss Alps, reminding us that the most extraordinary stories often unfold in silence — one gondola ride, one tiny village, one view at a time.
