Into the Heart of Switzerland: A Bollywood Dream in Interlaken

Some journeys are more than just movement — they’re poetry in motion. Day 4 was that kind of day. It was time to leave Zürich and head to the heart of Switzerland — Interlaken, a place soaked in nature, nostalgia, and cinematic charm.

The Panoramic Train: A Moving Dream

We boarded our panoramic train with excitement buzzing in our hearts and as luck would have it, we were welcomed with a perfect window seat. From the moment the train rolled out, we were completely spellbound.

There’s a strange confusion that only a scenic train in Switzerland can bring — which side of the window should you look out from? The left was a lake, sparkling in the morning light. The right? Cascading waterfalls tumbling down cliffs, almost suddenly, like nature had surprised even itself. Every turn introduced a new visual, tiny wooden chalets tucked into green valleys, herds of cows grazing lazily, and dramatic ups and downs of mountain slopes that seemed to rise just for you.

As we passed sleepy villages, mirror-like lakes, and countless waterfalls from silver ribbons to thundering plunges, the scenery felt like a storybook flipping pages at the perfect pace. The train itself became a cocoon of calm, filled with soft gasps of amazement and quiet admiration from fellow travelers.

It wasn’t a journey. It was a moving painting, with a rhythm that tugged gently at your soul.

Welcome to Interlaken – The Soul of Swiss Romance

Stepping into Interlaken felt like walking into a dream. Sandwiched between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, with snow-capped mountains towering above, this town glows with the golden touch of both nature and nostalgia.

After checking into our hotel nestled close to the town center, we freshened up and headed to something close to our hearts.

In the Footsteps of Simran & Raj

We made our way to Kursaal Garden, where a bronze statue of Yash Chopra stands tall, a tribute to the man who gifted Switzerland to Indian cinema lovers. It felt surreal. The location, the mountains behind, the soft breeze, all of it made it easy to imagine the echoes of DDLJ in the air.

We stood there, eyes closed for a moment, and suddenly — you could almost hear the clip-clop of Simran’s horse tanga, the joyful echo of Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main, the distant train whistle that defined love for a generation.

It was all here — the essence of DDLJ was in the air, in the rhythm of the streets, in the very way the town smiled.

An Evening to Just Be

The rest of the day, we let Interlaken guide us — no maps, no plans. We strolled along quiet paths, watched the sky turn a warm gold, and sat by the river, letting the Alpine breeze carry our thoughts far and wide.

We ended the evening with a visit to a local café, sipping Swiss hot chocolate and watching trams go by, feeling every bit the romantic wanderers we had always dreamed to be.

Final Thought

Day 4 wasn’t just travel, it was theatre, memory, and emotion rolled into one. The train journey alone will live in our hearts forever. And Interlaken? It didn’t just welcome us but it held us in its arms, the same way it did to Raj and Simran.

In every way, it reminded us:
Some places are meant to be experienced with your eyes open and heart wide.

💡Travel Tips:

  • Train route recommendation: Take the Luzern–Interlaken Express or the GoldenPass Line — both are spectacularly scenic and worth every second.
  • Book a window seat in advance — panoramic coaches have oversized windows for a reason.
  • If you’re a Bollywood fan, search for a self-guided "DDLJ filming locations walk" around Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen.
